It is with great regret to have to report that Jeremy Griffin died on 19th July
Jeremy and his family, Pat, Nicki and Abby, moved from Hampshire to Llanstephan in 1973. Although fast cars were Jeremy’s passion and remained so all his life, the family were keen sailors and members of the Ocean Cruising Club and for many years sailed on Overlord the OOC’s big boat. On moving to Wales they joined the sailing club, where some of Jeremy’s passion for speed and thrills were transferred to sailing a Fireball. Jeremy took a great interest in the running of the club and became a very active Commodore in 1985.
Jeremy encouraged Abby to instigate the club news letter in 1983. With his help she painstakingly typed the copy on a manual typewriter, which she and Jeremy then reproduced in A3 format on a reluctant photocopier, before folding and stapling. For several years Jeremy worked out the racing results with the aid of a circular slide rule before heading for home on a Sunday evening.
His ‘day job’ was renovating houses with great vision and skill, which when coupled to Pat’s artistic flair, produced some wonderful results. Merbach, the house they built from scratch over-looking the Wye at Clifford was a wonderful home, but that was surpassed by Ty Canol, the house they built at Llanfilo, where Jeremy lived for several years until his death.
Jeremy’s funeral was at Clifford Church on 31st July. There was an excellent turn out of club members, who had come to pay their respects to a very popular club member.
